Dress for Power


If you are treated like a dumb blonde at work maybe it’s not the fault of the color of your hair but the way you dress. Its time you learnt the clout of power dressing -a stylish clothing style, that gives an impression of assertiveness and competence and ultimately power.

Power dressing for work is not only important to gain respect but also for advancing up the career ladder. (But please, please don’t ever make the mistake of thinking that power dressing means unfeminine or unattractive clothes)

Power dressing for the corporate world is not something new but previously meant just boring suits in dull colors. But these days a new kind of power dressing has emerged providing a trendy alternative to the work suit. The new fashion trend leans towards nipped tailoring and bold statement dressing.

In today’s colorful corporate world, the options are many full of color and pizzazz. Dresses and skirts in silky prints combined with tailored jackets and sweaters, chic business suits, pin-striped trim trousers, snazzy short jackets, colorful leather blazers, trendy bags and briefcases, gorgeous scarves and accessories are all part of today’s woman’s power dressing.

Even the best designers like Gucci, Ralph Lauren etc are creating special lines for the corporate woman!

Check a few basic pointers for power dressing

• Avoid pastels at all costs they have a tendency to make you look passive, delicate and meek.

• Bold colors give you a dynamic look and make you look more distinctive and impressive.

• Bold colors, and also black, can overwhelm you if you wear them with the popular “nude” lipstick colors.

• When in doubt about color opt for Navy blue it is the basic black dress of work and is always professional looking.

• Also try to avoid Earthy colors at as they make you look less dynamic, and more casual.

• Accessories make you look polished and professional try to mix dull suits with trendy jewelry, bags. Leather Belts also make your outfits look more finished.

• Choose jackets with a high-fashion look and feminine cuts

• Keep shoes simple, and uncomplicated plain pumps are best. Also never wear pant shoes with a skirt, they tend to make your feet look large and clumsy.
