Sunglasses and lenses

Sunglass materials have a varied range to their credits. Some part can be heavier than the others and several which are more durable.

The mostly used common three are as following:

A durable lightweight plastic, polycarbonate.

The plastic used mostly in the prescription lenses, which is CR-39.

A common and durable material but heavier to wear glass.

The other feature about lenses is the tints and the other coatings.

A coating which is applied to sunglass lenses, UV filtering coating. But with this there are other sunglass lens tints too. The basic reason to color the lenses is to absorb the lights which pass through them. The color which is chosen is more dependent on the people’s personal choice. But there is a set of benefits which can be considered.

There is a color which doesn’t distort the color, but reduces the brightness is gray lenses, whereas the browns tend to reduce the vision, and also the glare which is created by the blue frequency in the sunlight, all this can make the scene appear hazy. Browns distort the colors much more that he grays. Coming to the yellow lens, they reduce the haze better than the browns caused by browns. They do sharpen the view but they are also responsible for causing more color distortion. Green lens are supposed to reduce the glare and also filter out some part of the blue light. They help create a nice contrast between the objects. And if you are into water sports or any other such outdoor activity then rose colored lenses are supposed to be a good choices. They are so because they provide good contrast for the objects which are viewed against the backgrounds in blue or green.

Another point is if polarized lenses should be worn or not. The function of a polarizing film is to help reduce the glare which is created when the light bounces off a thing. Like water, etc. but more than this it is a personal choice, if you prefer to wear them or not.  You should also consider buying the lenses which are scratch resistant. To be note is that the plastic lenses are not as scratch resistant as glass.

Sunglasses which have a mirror finish are very popular but they tend to get scratches easily since the mirror finish is applied last.

So make sure to choose a pair of sunglasses which suit your need best.
